Region: North America (including Mexico)
Country: Mexico

The Leakes serve in southern Mexico, working to spread the Gospel among least-reached indigenous peoples. Their daughters are Lauryn, Molly, and Jenna, and they are expecting their fourth child in February of 2009.
Chris and Erin were married in January of 2002. Chris graduated from Colorado Christian University in 2002 with a youth ministry degree. Chris and Erin spent the next two years youth pastoring at Green Mountain Christian Church in Lakewood, Colorado.

In May of 2004, Chris and Erin joined the full-time staff of Global Frontier Missions (GFM), located in southern Mexico. Their state is home to the largest concentration of “people groups” (or ethnic groups) in all of the Americas—at least 155 different indigenous tribes. Thirty or more of these groups (totaling over 100 villages) are unreached with the Gospel, meaning they have no self-sustaining indigenous church capable of evangelizing the rest of the population.

GFM’s strategy is to plant simple, reproducing churches in their centrally-located market town. These fellowships, in turn, are in an excellent position to make disciples in the many mountain villages in the area that have no church and – in a number of cases – no Christians whatsoever. GFM uses community service and development projects such as well drilling, water filtration, English classes, and medical clinics to gain the trust of people, build relationships, and demonstrate the love of Christ in practical ways. These projects are also a way to help new Mexican believers support themselves and reach out to others.

Chris and Erin lead GFM’s church planting team. Their duties include discipling GFM’s team of church planters and apprentices and integrating community development projects into the church planting ministry. Chris sells biosand water filters as a way to create an identity with locals, improve the quality of life, and help economic development. A strong commitment to evangelism and discipleship in the context of personal relationships undergirds all their ministry activities.

GFM’s ministry includes 10-day mission trips among least-reached peoples, 2-month summer internships for young adults, and a 7-month, in-the-field mission training school. You can learn more about these and other partnership opportunities at www.GlobalFrontierMissions.com.
