Timo and Corinne Towne serve in Puerto Escondido, in the state of Oaxaca, Mexico, with the FC Delfines Soccer Academy. For the first seventeen years of his life Timo grew up as a missionary kid in Oaxaca, and now feels God calling him to use his love of Mexico and his knowledge of the language and culture to further His Kingdom.
Mexico is young. By population 46% of Mexico is between the ages 0 and 24. In the words of Ronne, who started the soccer ministry, “We use the most popular sport in the world, especially here in Mexico to draw non-churched, Christ-needy youth to the feet of Jesus. Using soccer we can start building the foundation of a God centered life.”
While Timo serves through soccer ministry, Corinne will be learning Spanish at Roca Blanca Language School, in a nearby town.
The Townes long term dream is to start camps that will reach and train youth, empowering them as they seek to fulfill God’s calling on their lives. Timo loves being able to assist young people in reaching their goals, just like he enjoys a perfect pass that leads to a goal in the beautiful game of soccer. He feels that his calling is to encourage others just as Barnabas encouraged Paul, in order to help them “live in a manner worthy of the calling they have received”, and “live up to what they have already attained” in Christ (see Eph 4:1 and Phil 3:16).
