A Ditty About The Pity That The Workers Are Few

The harvest is plentiful,
but the barriers are, too.
Perhaps that’s the reason
the workers are few.

We pray for more workers,
but once they commit
We quickly find reasons
to call them unfit.

My people, like sheep,
are helpless, harassed.
They need caring shepherds
Not theology class.

I’ll choose who I send
By checking their heart.
I don’t need the rich
or the strong or the smart.

I simply need servants
Who’ll trust and obey.
Who are willing to follow
And do what I say.

My plan is to see
My kingdom advance.
And I’ll make it happen.
Just give folks a chance.

A chance to fail.
Or perhaps to soar.
A chance to discover
What I created them for.

– Rick Malm

When he saw the crowds, he had compassion on them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd. Then he said to his disciples, “The harvest is plentiful but the workers are few. Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field.”
– Matthew 9:36-38
