Oscar & Janet Huarac
Oscar and Janet have a passion for seeing God’s Word impact and change lives. Oscar is a native of Peru, whose first language is Huaylas Quechua. Janet, a New Englander, came to Peru in the early 1980s under Wycliffe Bible Translators. The two met while Janet worked among Oscar’s people. After seven years of ministry together, they were married. In 2019 the Huaylas Quechua Bible was completed and presented to the people. Meanwhile, Oscar and Janet sensed God would have them focus their ministry to encourage and help strengthen the established churches. They began a discipleship-evangelism ministry in 2009 and continue this ministry under CTEN. More recently, the Huaracs are based in the US for family and health needs. However, their ministry continues full-time in Peru via social media platforms. They also make an annual visit to Peru for in-person ministry. Their ministry vision is two-fold:
1. To foment thriving churches by investing in the lives of church leaders and their membership, challenging them to think and live biblically. Oscar meets with church leaders and a variety of church groups on a regular basis to teach, counsel, mentor, and encourage. Janet has occasion to teach in church groups of women and youth, as well as individuals. Both Oscar and Janet were trained in early 2020 as tour leaders with Biblical Byways to lead study-tour groups to Israel for Spanish speakers. The focus of these study tours is to help missionaries, Bible translators, pastors, and church leaders gain a greater appreciation for the veracity of the Scriptures by experiencing the Holy Land in person and deepening their understanding of the historical-cultural context of the Bible.
2. To proclaim the gospel of Jesus Christ to the lost by evangelizing individuals and small groups in a variety of contexts and offering spiritual counsel to those who are at a crisis point in their life or desire to understand what placing their faith in Christ means. Many of the people have not had a biblical Gospel presented to them and are steeped in religiosity.
