Ed and Mary Fox

Ed and Mary Fox have lived and worked among the Maya K’iche’ people of Guatemala for 24 years, helping provide the K’iche’ people with the Word of God in their heart language. Ed was born in Guatemala, where his parents were translators among a larger group of K’iche’ speakers. At Wheaton College he majored in Cultural Anthropology, later serving as a short-term missionary in Guatemala. Mary grew up in the Midwest, subsequently earning a Master’s degree in Christian Studies at Regent College in Vancouver. She then taught English in Egypt for five years.

Ed and Mary began service together in Guatemala in 1986, working in language survey and socio-linguistic analysis before being assigned to do Bible translation work in 1991. When their previous mission agency decided to conclude its ministry in Guatemala, Ed and Mary felt compelled to stay and help the San Andrés K’iche’ people, who have requested their assistance in the complex Bible translation task.

Pray for the K’iche’ people of Guatemala, that many more will come to Christ and gain a deeper understanding of their faith as they hear God’s Word in their language. “How, then, can they call on the one they have not believed in? And how can they believe in the one of whom they have not heard? …faith comes from hearing the message, and the message is heard through the word of Christ” (Romans 10:14-17 NIV).
