The McCoys – Serving Families
Brian & Sue McCoy – Serving Families
Brian & Sue McCoy moved from the USA to Baja California, Mexico, with their five children, in 2005, with the non-profit ministry Hands of Mercy (HōM), to help families serve together by building homes for those in need in Mexico. In 2011, the McCoy’s moved to Asia and served with e3 Partners, leading short-term ministry teams focused on evangelism to the least reached. In 2014, they moved full-time to South Asia, bringing the gospel to the most unreached in remote villages. In the fall of 2016, sensing that they were at a crossroads, Brian and Sue taught together in a Youth with a Mission (YWAM) Discipleship Training School (DTS), at a YWAM base near where they lived in South Asia.
In 2017, with the Lord’s leading, the political winds shifting, and doors beginning to increasingly close to missionaries in the country, they attended a Family DTS (FDTS) with their daughter, Shaina, in Kona, Hawaii. In 2018, they joined YWAM Kona staff, served in a FDTS, and led an outreach to the Philippines. In 2019, the McCoy’s led the spring FDTS in Kona. Later that year, with a vision to host a FDTS, Brian, Sue, and Shaina returned to their home in Mexico. There they pioneered the YWAM base, “Rancho Abierto”, out of their yurt and tiny houses, on a remote 500-acre ranch, in Baja California, Mexico.
Rancho Abierto has become a community of faith, focused on equipping and training families for ministry and cross-cultural missions. With a team of YWAM families serving as staff, YWAM Rancho Abierto has an international feel and focus. There is a FDTS offered every spring since 2021, hosting families from many different nations. The children ages 4-17 that come with their families, attend their own age-appropriate discipleship school, called the “Foundation School”. Children ages 3 and under, are cared for by provided nannies. Rancho Abierto also has the only YWAM Family Bible school exclusively for families to attend together, that runs each fall since 2023.
The McCoy’s have five adult children and five grandchildren and live full-time within walking distance from the base in Baja California, Mexico. For more information visit: www.ywamranchoabierto.org.
