Rick and Jana Malm
Rick and Jana Malm founded Commission To Every Nation in 1994 while serving as missionaries in the Central American country of Guatemala. Rick serves as President of CTEN USA, CTEN Canada and Commission Ministers Network. He works with the staff, missionaries and Boards of all three organizations to preserve the original vision of helping others fulfill their god-implanted vision for ministry.
Why CTEN?
Unprecedented changes in our world are revolutionizing missions. Thousands of unique opportunities exist for anyone willing to “step out of the boat” and follow God into the great adventure of impacting the world with the message of Jesus Christ.
While serving as missionaries the Malms saw many needs that were not being met. At the same time they knew people in the US who were willing and able to meet the needs but they had no way to get there – no organization equipped to serve missionaries that fit into those unique slots. Furthermore, those who could find a willing sending organization were often discouraged by the seemingly endless “hoops” they were required to jump through to be approved, trained and funded – a process that could take up to 5 years before the new missionary actually got to their field of service.
Rick observed, “We wonder why the harvest is plentiful but the workers few. Could it partly be because we have made it so hard for people to go?”
CTEN was founded as a servant organization to remove barriers and make it as simple as possible for people to get on the field and fulfill Gods call on their life. This goal is summed up in the mission vision statement: Helping Ordinary People Partner With God To Accomplish The Extraordinary.
Background
Prior to founding CTEN, Rick served in the US Navy, served as principal of a large Christian school, an associate pastor and helped plant and pastor a new church. Rick holds a Bachelors Degree in Business Administration and a Masters Degree in Educational Administration and will receive his PhD in Pastoral Ministry upon completion of his dissertation. He has published articles in various magazines and is author of several books available in English and Spanish.
Jana is a talented singer and musician. Her recording, My Voice Rises To God features her singing and playing flute with songs in English, Spanish and two instrumental pieces. She sees her primary ministry as that of a mother and a wife, roles she performs with excellence.
Ordination for Missionaries
In 2002, in response to a need for ministerial credentials by national pastors and leaders from many countries where CTEN missionaries serve, Rick established Commission Ministers Network, to provide ministerial license and ordination for those meeting established criteria and actively serving in a ministerial role.
Some countries require that missionaries have ministerial credentials to receive visas and be permitted to work in that country. Through Commission Ministers Network CTEN missionaries can receive ministerial credentials as a further aid to fulfill their missions calling and meet government requirements.
